Abstract
President Biden recently announced the Student Loan Relief Program that will cancel $10-20k in loans per borrower. This announcement produced mixed emotions for those of us working at San Francisco Rising (SFR). While it is a relief to see some student debt canceled, we worked relentlessly this summer for all of the student debt to be canceled and we still want to emphasize the need to pressure Biden and others to make this reality. Prior to our relentless work, we engaged in critically thinking about our positionalities and how they relate to education justice. We also discussed a lot about student debt as a social change issue. We engaged with this issue more during our work this summer, reflecting on our experiences in terms of our learning, feelings, and intentions. In this paper, we summarize our experiences and supplement it with some ideas about the future.
