Abstract
The limited availability and functionality of personal assistive robots in the consumer market is a significant problem that affects aging populations who may require assistance with day-to-day tasks. This lack of accessibility exacerbates feelings of loneliness and dependence, making it more difficult for individuals to maintain their independence and quality of life. To address these issues, the team aims to develop a more versatile and accessible robot that can perform a range of tasks and provide support, entertainment, and connectivity to loved ones. By creating a robot that is adaptable and capable of performing multiple functions, the team hopes to provide a greater sense of independence for individuals who may feel limited by their physical capabilities. In addition, the robot aims to address social loneliness by providing a companion and source of support for individuals who may feel isolated or alone. Ultimately, the project seeks to contribute to the field of personal assistive robots by creating a more versatile and accessible option for individuals who require assistance with day-to-day tasks. The team's product vision is to create a world where older adults can lead active, healthy, and socially connected lives without the fear of isolation and loneliness, by introducing the Well-Walk - a smart walker that empowers users to stay connected and engaged with their loved ones, while also monitoring useful health information.
