Biographical/Historical Giordano Ruffo served as farrier to the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II (1194-1250), to whom he dedicated this work. Considerably influential in the development of veterinary medicine and a cornerstone work on the study of horses, this work drew on the teachings of Galen, but relied most heavily on Ruffo's own practical experience and keen observation.
