Long-term monitoring of acorn barnacles at Hopkins Marine Station
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
This data monitors the arrival of larvae of the acorn barnacles (Balanus glandula) on a weekly basis at a single settlement location. Balanus glandula recruits were collected at Hopkins Marine Station (Pacific Grove, California. 36°37'N, 121°54'W).
Individuals settled on six to eight 10 cm x 10 cm x 0.6cm PVC plates (TAP Plastics) covered with grey Safety-Walk tape (3M) that were bolted to the substratum in the rocky mid-intertidal zone. Plates remained in the intertidal for 14 days before being collected and replaced by new plates with fresh Safety-Walk tape.
