Rural-Urban Distinction in the Late Ming Huaben
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
This paper delves into the rural and urban representations in the late Ming huaben texts. While cities are portrayed as rich and prosperous places, rural areas are depicted in an opposite way. The literary construction of rural people and spaces reveals that urban people, represented by huaben writers and audiences, are very conscious of the rural-urban distinction.
I hope this interdisciplinary study will cast new light on the rural-urban issues.
