Interview of Richard Cone. Service Learning Conference, Wingspread Center, Racine, Wisconsin, 1995.
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- In December 1995, Stanford University’s Haas Center for Public Service convened a small, representative number of service-learning “pioneers,” who were early adapters of this new, innovative pedagogy, to collect and analyze their stories at the Wingspread Center in Racine, Wisconsin. Co-sponsored by The Johnson Foundation the conference comprised the first major step of a research project designed to uncover and analyze the history of service-learning. The conveners wished to develop and disseminate this history in order to strengthen the service-learning’s theoretical, policy, and practice dimensions and thereby its potential to transform education and society. At Wingspread the pioneers discussed their roots, their aspirations, their concerns and the challenges they faced. These narratives were captured in the book, "Service-Learning: A Movement's Pioneers Reflect on its Origins, Practice and Future," (Stanton, Giles & Cruz, Jossey-Bass, 1999)
