Abstract
This report presents the results of a first attempt to find a correlation linking the areal sweep efficiencies at breakthrough and the mobility ratio of different waterflooding patterns. The flooding patterns under consideration in this report were the direct line drive, staggered line drive, five spot and inverted seven spot. For the special case when the mobility ratio is equal to one, the Muskat and Prats analytical equations for the direct line drive and staggered line drive respectively, were solved numerically and after a thorough analysis, a simple mathematical equation was found linking the unswept ratios at breakthrough of the direct line drive and the staggered line drive, from this a relationship was established between the areal sweep efficiencies for both patterns. Simple equations were derived expressing the area sweep efficiency at breakthrough as a function of D/A.In this study it was also found that for mobility ratios equal to one, and as long as D/A ? 1.5 the unswept area at breakthrough does not depend on how far the injectors are from the producers.A review of all available information was performed for the four patterns mentioned previously. The variation of areal sweep efficiencies at breakthrough were record as a function of mobility ratio, and the most reliable curves were constructed relating areal sweep efficiencies at breakthrough to mobility ratio. After which a unique correlation was obtained for mobility ratios between 0.1 and 1.0, linking all the mentioned patterns into one single correlation.
