Abstract
This dissertation analyzes various aspects of financial markets. The first chapter studies how quantities of safe bonds affect asset prices and lending volumes in financial markets. The second chapter analyzes why most bond issuing firms also obtain funding from bank loans and credit lines. The final chapter studies the balance sheet decisions of depository institutions and asks how these decisions affect the transmission of monetary policy in general equilibrium.
