- Karl Sowa graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1994. In this interview, he reflects on navigating his sexuality in school and in the corporate world and compares gay communities in Indiana, Houston, New York City, and West Hollywood. In particular he describes encountering the AIDS epidemic in Houston and New York; joining an established community of gay couples in Los Angeles that included David Bohnett and Rand Schrader; and being a member of one of the first classes with openly gay students at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He also describes working for web hosting pioneer GeoCities and retail companies hoping to establish an online presence in the early days of the internet.
