Evaluation of Water Saturation in Shaly Sands
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Shaly sands complicate the interpretation of well log data and subsequent calculations of porosity and water saturation. As there are no really clean oil sands, the study of shaly sands has been an important field of research since the inception of well log evaluation. The basic concepts involved in evaluating shaly sands are presented. An extensive survey of the literature is presented t o allow development of models and techniques for shaly sand interpretation from an historical perspective. A discussion of the relevant characteristics of the theories presented is given with comparison of performance for case studies from gas storage reservoirs in Los Angeles.
