Abstract
StudyBuddy is a tool grounded in the problem that, as humans, it is challenging to gauge what we know and what we don’t know. For students, this often makes studying inefficient as we don’t know where to start, or how to spend our time most efficiently, and we run the risk of thinking we are prepared for assessment when we are not. This tool uses generative AI to create a “teachable agent” (TA) and engages users in a technique called learning by teaching (LBT) where they teach the TA about the topic they are studying. During this process, students confront the limitations of their knowledge and gain a clear picture of which topics they need to study further, thus increasing their preparedness and, ultimately, their self-efficacy.
