Interview with Kim Bancroft and Margaret Jensen : Oral History of Aurora Project
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- In this joint interview, Margaret Jensen (AB Political Science, 1980) and Kim Bancroft (AB English, 1982) discuss their early days as founders of Aurora. They describe Aurora as the touchstone that drove a multitude of learning experiences, from exploring feminist theory to topics such as rape, sexuality, and race. Jensen points out the parallels between the national feminist movement and their own Stanford experiences--working nonhierarchically, connecting the personal with the political, and dealing with the “man-haters” stereotype. Bancroft recounts how a handbook about Aurora was created to document processes for future members of the collective. The alumni also compare their experiences with Aurora to the experiences of their interviewers, current Aurora members Stephanie Poggi and Sally Thomas.
