- Sam McDonald, Superintendent of Stanford Grounds, and children from the convalescent home harvesting from the Victory Garden 1945 ; Early in the war I had plowed up some five acres of land surrounding the home and adapted it for farming in the manner prescribed for this emergency, and so by the coming spring of 1942, with assistance on all sides, the project did rapidly take shape.
