Abstract
In this talk, Professor Nix discusses the ever-changing needs ofindustry and society, scientific developments, as well as the evolvingnature of the University itself and the interests of the Department’sfaculty and students. He draws on the history of the department andtells the stories of the particular individuals who were active in it.His talk is a compelling account of one of Stanford’s most distinguisheddepartments.
