Abstract
This study analyzes the Dos Cuadras reservoir and proposes ways to increase ultimate recovery. A detailed analysis of the original reservoir model is presented and ways to improve the history match are discussed. Results of sensitivity analyses carried out on various reservoir parameters are presented. The model is shown to be relatively insensitive to permeability variations. The heavily faulted nature of the anticline and the absence of any substantial hard data are used as justification to modify oil-water contact depths in the reservoir model, which is shown to improve the history match considerably. The improved reservoir model tracks the observed field data, and could therefore be used as the basis for oil recovery predictions. Predictive runs are made with and without altering the number of existing wells in the model. Introducing a vertical injector is shown to be more effective in increasing oil production than adding new vertical producers. A horizontal producer alternating through the bottom two layers is found to be quite effective. A combination of the vertical injector and the horizontal producer is chosen as a promising way to improve ultimate recovery. The new model is thus shown to provide a very effective reservoir management tool for the future planning, development and forecasting of the Dos Cuadras reservoir.
