Abstract
As the world becomes increasingly dependent on a truly global economy and technological advancements making it easier to travel, inter-lingual communication is becoming extremely important-- currently there are over 6,500 languages spoken around the world. There are many barriers associated with conversing without a common language; some are obvious like cultural disconnect, but other are more subtle like feeling anxious about not being able to speak well in the target language. Toppan Printing teamed with student teams from Stanford University and Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) to design a non-verbal communication aid and prototype a new conversation device for those who do not have common languages.
