- Abstract
- This raster dataset is georeferenced image of a portion of a map showing Isla la Tortuga in Venezuela. The original map "South America, Venezuela, Isla la Tortuga and islas las Aves" was prepared and published by the Defense Mapping Agency. Depths shown by isolines and soundings. Relief shown by contours and spot heights. "From U.S. Navy survey of 1939 (both) and Venezuelan charts to 1978 (Tortuga)." "Copyright 1995 by the United States Government. No copyright claimed under Title 17 U.S.C." "Soundings in meters." Map no.24441. Includes compilation diagram.
- Purpose
- Historic paper maps can provide an excellent view of the changes that have occurred in the cultural and physical landscape. The wide range of information provided on these maps make them useful in the study of historic geography, and urban and rural land use change. As this map has been georeferenced, it can be used in a GIS as a source or background layer in conjunction with other GIS data.
