- Nicolo da Bologna (Bologna, c. 1394-1402). Nativity, in an initial P, on the left the Annunciation to the Shepherds (140 x 120 mm). One of a set of historiated initials from a Choirbook commissioned for the Carthusian abbey of Santo Spirito by the archbishop of Lucca. Bologna was one of the major centers of manuscript art, and Nicolo da Bologna is considered the leading Bolognese manuscript painter of the Trecento. Formerly in the collections of Dennistoun and Clark.
