Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo Commencement Speech
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo, who holds three advanced degrees from Stanford, told graduating students Sunday they should not take their good fortunes for granted. He spoke at Stanford's 112th Commencement, at which 1,865 bachelor's degrees, 1,976 master's degrees and 899 doctoral degrees were awarded. "The war against poverty must be seen as a worldwide partnership, just like the war against terror," he said. "The war against poverty needs to be won, otherwise the beautiful vision of a world populated by truly free human beings will continue to be no more than just a dream . . . I look forward to having those of you graduating today join in this enterprise. Together we can do it. My friends, I invite you today to join this collective effort of fighting poverty."
