Abstract/Contents

Abstract
This dissertation consists of an edition and analysis of the twelfth-century ordinal of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In my thesis I explore the historical events surrounding the formation of the Crusader's Holy Sepulchre liturgy and discuss the rite's most salient aspects. This is realized by analyzing the liturgy of the temporale and sanctorale sections in combination with their associated processions. I also include in the discussion a thirteenth-century breviary written in Acre for the Knights Templar chapel. This breviary follows the use of the Holy Sepulchre and permits among other things, a discussion of how the rite changed through time.
