Abstract
Cells exert cytoskeletally-generated force to the surrounding extracellular matrix using specialized integrin-based focal adhesion complexes. Part 1 characterizes force transduction of fibroblasts in a soft fibrin extracellular matrix. Part 2 characterizes the force-dependent kinetics of the bond between focal adhesion protein talin and F-actin using single-molecule force spectroscopy.
