Organized Labor and Social Value Creation in Silicon Valley

Abstract/Contents

Abstract

Ahmi Dhuna’s capstone project explored the relationship between organized labor, the growing tech industry, and economic disparities in the Silicon Valley. More specifically, she focused on the history of organized labor in the Silicon Valley, detailing the virulently anti-worker nature of tech’s market incentives and dominant business models, and contrasting these destructive anti-worker tactics with tech’s rhetoric of ‘bettering mankind.’ Her paper offers a critical look at how anti-union industries affect working conditions, low-income communities, and growing income inequality.
