Abstract
This Working Paper is on managing groundwater – a precious resource for sustaining people and the environment – is far from simple. It sheds light on some of the related challenges and potential solutions facing policymakers. The report, based on a two-day workshop that brought together nearly 50 groundwater managers and experts from Australia and the United States, discusses the participants’ experiences and lessons learned. Among the report’s findings: more investment in communications between agencies and stakeholders is needed and more attention should be given to the use of payments to recover groundwater rights or to reduce groundwater use.
