The Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel: How Environment Affects Music
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- We often assume that music is the only part of a performance that affects one’s experience. While this is largely true, the environment of the performance can also affect how the group performs and how the audience responds. This project focuses on the Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel, a Latin jazz ensemble in the Bay Area, and how performances in different venues can affect an audience member’s experience and shape the group's sound. This archive contains recordings, interviews, and photographs from the three months that I followed the Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel and their bandleader, Brian Andres.
