- Abstract
- A manuscript containing the text of the German prose Chronicle begun by German chronicler Jakob Twinger von Königshofen in 1382 and twice revised to include events up to 1415. It comvines a universal chronicle or Weltchronik with the local history of Strasbourg and Alsace. The work begins with a the creation of the world and a history of Jews and people from the East, continues with the history of the Emperors (beginning with Julius caesar) and the popes. He concludes with two chapters on Shrasbourg: a history of the bishops, and of the town and region.

Biographical/Historical | Jakob Twinger von Königshofen was born in 1346 at Königshofen, a village near Strasburg, in Alsace. He became a priest in 1382, and for a time was in charge of the parish of Drusenheim. In 1394, he became notary Apostolic, and in 1395 a canon of St. Thomas in Strasbuorg, where he was placed in charge of the archives. He died in Strasbourg on December 27, 1420. |
