Abstract
This PhD dissertation studies the welfare implication of the development of U.S. retail industries since 2000. The first chapter studies the impact of dollar stores on consumer welfare. The second chapter focuses on the overall trend of the brick and mortar general merchandise sector since 2010. The third chapter examines the relationship between food prices and households' dietary quality.
