- Ann Hentschel, a past executive director of the Children’s Center of the Stanford Community (CCSC), speaks about her lengthy career in childcare, sharing memories of her time at the Bing Nursery School, CCSC, and the Stanford Arboretum Children’s Center. She explains why it’s difficult to advocate for higher pay for teachers, the importance of university support for childcare centers on college campuses, and the CCSC director’s role of communicating between the teachers and Board of Directors. Hentschel discusses the parent-teacher collaborative dynamic at CCSC, as well as the costs of quality childcare and how the CCSC model compares to other childcare centers.

Biographical Profile | Ann Hentschel is the quality research and program development manager at Branagh Group where she is the project lead for early childhood education online professional development and quality improvement tools. Ann has been in the field of early childhood education for over 35 years. The early years of her career were spent at Stanford University. She worked as a toddler and preschool teacher at Bing School and executive director at both the Children’s Center of the Stanford Community (CCSC) and the Stanford Arboretum Children’s Center. Most recently, Ann was the director of quality assessment at the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership at National Louis University. In that role she oversaw the implementation of quality assessments and training of technical assistance specialists for the Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) in Illinois. Ann is coauthor of two books: A Great Place to Work and Inspiring Peak Performance with her colleagues Paula Jorde Bloom and Jill Bella. She received her master’s degree in early childhood administration from National Louis University. Her passion is in developing innovative ways to support teachers and program leaders in providing high quality early learning experiences for young children. |
