reFill: The App that lets Beauty and Skincare Consumers Easily Refill their Reusable Packaging, Keep Track of Their Global Sustainability and Human Rights Impact, and Receive Rewards for Doing It!
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Kalyani Ramadurgam’s capstone project addressed the lack of sustainable practices, such as refillable make-up packaging, in the beauty industry. Drawing on her Computer Science skills, Kalyani created a mobile application prototype that works with beauty companies to allow customers to refill their sustainable packaging and receive rewards for doing it. The application serves as an informative tool that not only allows users to search for items and order them for pickup and delivery, but it also provides them with a “reFill Passport” where they can read about the sustainability and ethical ratings of the product they’ve chosen and know where the ingredients were sourced and potentially who helped put together their product. She hopes this application will serve as a way to add transparency to labor trafficking and supply chain issues within the beauty industry and provide an easy way for consumers to take part in addressing their impact.
