Saint Peter
Abstract/Contents
- Description
- Lippo Vanni (Siena, c. 1344) Saint Peter with a Key in an initial “E” (434 x 295 mm.). One of four folios from an Antiphonal created early in his career. Lippo Vanni worked in and around Siena as a manuscript illuminator, as well as a fresco and panel painter. Commissions of the kind that Lippor received in the mid-14th century suggest that he was seen by patrons as a major talent, and in 1356 he was mentioned as the head of a list of painters in Siena.
