Santa Cruz County struggles to overcome addiction amid opioid crisis
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Opioid addiction is a much more severe problem in Santa Cruz County than in other parts of California. For the last decade, the county's opioid overdose death rates have been more than twice that of the rest of the state. Santa Cruz County's opioid crisis is difficult to diagnose, with the county's culture and homelessness contributing to the epidemic. This article discusses the roots of the opioid crisis and what has made Santa Cruz County so susceptible to it, as well as what health experts are doing to help the county overcome its addiction.
