Abstract
Saray Bedoya’s human rights capstone explores whether companies and corporations can truly exercise corporate social responsibility in a capitalist society, and explores this relationship through the lens of Capitalism, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Business and Human Rights (BHR), and Human Rights. She examines and introduces case studies to demonstrate companies that have utterly failed and companies that are on the right track of social responsibility, and further shows how human rights violations have been rampant both in subtle and flagrant ways within the business world despite governments and companies attempting to mitigate these issues. Despite what seems like total darkness, Saray posits that corporations can be socially responsible when they restructure their business model to center social wellbeing, human rights, and conscious consumption.
