Abstract
Population of city of Sunland Park and surrounding areas has increased by about 20% from April 2010 to July 2017 (U.S. Census Bureau 2010). This city is located in an arid region where water is a limited resource. The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) provides water to Sunland Park and the Santa Teresa region. Urbanization in the area has created more demand for water; the residential and industrial consumption of the region has increased since 2014. With this increasing development of the region, it is crucial that urban riparian areas be rehabilitated to improve wildlife habitat, water quality, and improve aesthetics. Since the creation of Riparian rehabilitation at ReNUWIt Sunland Park Testbed, more development has occurred. It is hypothesized that rehabilitation of riparian area at Sunland Park will increase the prices of neighboring houses. This study investigates the urbanization of Sunland Park and the surrounding areas.
