Abstract
This is the material collected by Israel McMullin in the process of conducting field research for Music 247A, Listening to the Local. The goal of his project was to examine the intersection of Garage Rock and the visual arts (t-shirts, flyers, posters, album covers, etc.). The material collected contains: a 2 part photo essay, which documents a music performance at The Knockout and several t-shirts from local Garage Rock bands; 3 informal interviews, one with Carolyn Keddy (a DJ and Garage Rock fan, transcript included), Ryan Wells and Melissa Henonany (both fans of Garage Rock), and Shayde Sartin (an artist and musician in The Fresh & Onlys); 2 video clips (one of the band Chesslayers and the other of Thee Oh Sees); an image of a print by John Dwyer (artist, photographer, and frontman of Thee Oh Sees); and an image of Castle Face Records' Group Flex (a limited edition, compilation recording of local musical artists).
