Txoj Kev Hlub: A Hmong Collection of Short Love Stories

Abstract/Contents

Abstract: This paper explores the relationships between Hmong communities and family members, particularly looking at love and how it morphs intergenerationally into different forms that alludes to looming histories and systems. By utilizing autoethnography, creative writing and expression, and plans for oral interviewing, my project seeks to heal historical traumas of forced displacement that has shaped the Hmong diasporic consciousness—what do we gain when we choose to love each day despite deeply-rooted traumas that transposes itself across time and space, causing for the re-living of trauma rather than its remembrance? How do we exchange the tools of love to transform each other towards our own rescue? This research serves as a source in which love, sexuality, and Hmongness, blend, and how we can extrapolate examples of love, and lessons learned from love within these oral interviews, into centering a love ethic within our daily lives.
