WINPEDIA: making side-window an encyclopedia for outside world

- Abstract
- Winpedia consists of turning the side window of a car into an augmented-reality system. Children will be encouraged to look through the window and to point at items of interest. As they point, Winpedia can identify and highlight the object that they are most likely selecting. We then project information about that object (the “story” behind the object) from a database, which is populated in part by knowing where the car is located at each instant. Audio information is also available. In this way the car window becomes an engaging visual encyclopedia about the surrounding world, which keeps children occupied but not disconnected. The Winpedia can even be built as a cloud based software, where users can share and obtain feedback about what they see outside the car, eg, rating for restaurants, feedback of hotels.
