- Team SAAB, a design team consisting of 3 students from Stanford University and 4 from Linkoping University, Sweden were handed the challenge of improving aspects of the disaster space through technology by our partner SAAB. We designed a shelter that involves delivery via drone, whereupon they are assembled by the local population. The shelter consists of weather resistant tarp with reinforcing woven glass impregnated with moisture-hardening polyurethane. This system allows for modularity i.e. the shelter can be broken down into panels which allows for multiple modules to connect together using industrial-grade velcro. This system would help a large number of users stay together with their family in a safe, rigid and private home during the period where their homes are being rebuilt, which can be 5 years or more.
