Fua Dia Congo Recordings
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- These recordings were collected for Music 147A- Listening to the Local: Music Ethnography of the Bay Area, a Stanford Department of Music Writing in the Major course instructed by Anna Schultz. The group studied is Fua Dia Congo, a Congolese Drumming group that teaches classes in Oakland at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts. The purpose of these recordings was to understand communication between instructor and students, and how this communication contributed to the class dynamic. Posted are audio recordings of two Fua Dia Congo Drum classes (led by Kiazi Malonga, the musical director of Fua Dia Congo) and an interview with Malonga, and video recordings of a Fua Dia Congo Dance class (led by Malonga).
