Abstract
This dissertation is a collection of three separate solo-authored essays. The first essay studies how the placements of foster children in foster care into group homes and non-kin foster families affects their outcomes later in life and how the allocation of these placements affects aggregate outcomes. The second essay presents a Beckerian model of households fostering children and tests the mechanisms of the model. The third essay analyzes a theoretical model to assess whether universal testing of individuals in a pandemic increases or decreases disease spread.
