Elizabeth Van Schaack : Interview for Stanford Community Women's March Oral History Project
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Beth Van Schaack (1991 AB Human Biology) discusses her experience attending the Women’s March in Washington, DC, with her mother and daughter. Van Schaack, who worked as a diplomat during the Obama administration and served under Hillary Clinton when Clinton was Secretary of State, describes her deep admiration for Clinton and her disappointment with the results of the election. After the election, she recalls, she immediately bought plane tickets to attend the march in DC despite the fact that she has never been comfortable with direct action protests. She speaks about her hopes for the march, designing special women’s march flags, and reconnecting with friends from across the country at the march. A Stanford alum, Van Schaack is the Leah Kaplan Visiting Professor of Human Rights at the Stanford Law School.
