Note | These are the six mural-maps that Miguel Covarrubias painted for Pacific House, the theme building of the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco in 1939. They are photo-offset lithographic maps printed by H.S. Crocker Company and Schwabacher-Frey Company. José Miguel Covarrubias Duclaud was a Mexican painter and caricaturist, theater set designer, ethnologist and art historian very well known in the United States as well as in Merxico. Large, stiff, light brown cardboard boards printed with Polynesian patterns in dark brown. Has wood dowl mounted in spine for gently folding the maps. Secured with rope or cord to heighten the islander look. Folder has "COVARRUBIAS" boldly written in dark blue on front. |
