Abstract
Digital savviness, given the swift evolution of technology, has emerged as a pivotal career competency. Yet, young job seekers aged 18-29, particularly those grappling with executive functioning challenges, often face difficulties navigating the multitude of digital tools introduced by rapid technological progress. This project focuses on bridging this learning gap by fostering digital adaptability through INTERSECT, an AI-empowered, gamified learning environment. Grounded in sociotechnical systems theory, INTERSECT seeks to teach transferable skills that are applicable across various tools and career paths. The learning experience is structured into three hierarchical skill levels, concentrating on technical understanding, adaptation and application, and social integration through the simulation of diverse digital personas. Design choices were informed by a multidimensional approach, analyzing the digital learning hurdles encountered by our target demographic and determining effective engagement methodologies. The proposed solution anticipates enabling learners to acquire a robust understanding of common digital tool interfaces and practices, encouraging the ability to learn and adapt to a wide array of tools, and enhancing their efficacy in digital collaboration. To evaluate INTERSECT's impact, performance measures include the capacity to navigate new digital tools, apply learned knowledge to new contexts, and communicate using the digital tools’ collaboration feature. The goal of this project is to equip early job seekers with crucial digital skills, boost their workplace readiness, and cultivate resilience in preparation for the workplace.
