Bibliographic information
Biographical/Historical note | Dr. Ernst Rohloff studied mathematics at the University of Berlin and Braunschweig. He had many technical interests and was also a violin soloist and an art painter. His study with F. Kruger on the internal damping of wood for violins sparked a great deal of interest at the time when it was published in 1938. He subsequently did more work along these lines, some of the papers are included in the collection and some are in the Benchmark Volumes, I and II, along with a biographical sketch of him and the work he did. He corresponded with C. Hutchins considerably in the preparation of the Benchmark Volumes and on his research in general. He studied the violin in a vacuum and was particularly interested in the speaking qualities of violins. |
