WASC, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, is an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education that conducts reviews of schools, both public and private, from kindergarten through senior college levels. The primary goals of WASC, as taken from their website, are to:
Promote institutional engagement with issues of education effectiveness and student learning
Develop a culture of evidence that informs decision-making
Foster active interchange among public and independent institutionsIn the broadest sense, Stanford's mission is to create and disseminate knowledge in service to humanity. This commitment to liberal education and public service dates back to the founding grant, which states that the university's objectives are to qualify students for personal success and direct usefulness in life and to promote the public welfare by exercising an influence on behalf of humanity and civilization. Our accreditation review enables us to ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality education to our students and maintain our commitment to improve society.
