Essays on economic theory and its applications
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Recent advances in mechanism design and information design have enhanced our theoretical understanding of incentives and strategic interactions. This dissertation applies these tools to derive empirical and policy implications. The dissertation considers three distinct, classical problems in economics---regulation of externalities, redistribution by public provision of goods, and welfare analysis of economic policies---and shows how new insights can be drawn from mechanism design and information design.
