Abstract
In this dissertation, I examine the role of segregation and racial congruence between teachers and students on three different educational outcomes. The first paper examines teacher perceptions of student behavior as a function of racial similarity between teachers and students. The second paper estimates partial associations of between-district segregation and racial disparities in school district revenue. The third paper studies the effect of within-district segregation on racial disparities in academic achievement. Together, these papers deepen our understanding on the causes and correlates of racial disparities in education.
