- Laura Ford (AB English, 1991) discusses her experiences as a Stanford student in the 1990s, with a special focus on the social dynamics of the time, including party and hookup culture, attitudes towards drugs and alcohol on campus, and female students’ expression of sexuality. Ford goes on to discuss her academic experiences at Stanford, which included both memorable and highly influential English classes as well as those she did not favor, and her study abroad experience at the Stanford Program in Oxford. Laura also talks about how the interdisciplinary interests in art and literature that she pursued at Stanford led her to a career in television and film. The interview ends with a reflection on the historical significance of the time in which she lives, specifically in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter Movement, the most recent presidential election, and the many natural disasters that the country has suffered in recent years.
