Abstract
A dewpoint subroutine was developed and incorporated into a phase-behavior program which included the Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK), Peng-Robinson (PR), and Schmidt-Wenzrl(SW) equations of state ( EOS ). The new phase behavior program makes flash calculations and can compute bubblepoints and dewpoints. The program was verified by comparing computed results with experimental data for the methane-ethane binary system. The agreement between computed results using the Peng-Robinson equation of state and experimental data was good. Hence, this model should represent phase-behavior for multicomponent mixtures at high pressures and temperatures typical of gas condensate reservoirs. The reliability of the Peng-Robinson equation of state to compute phase behavior at high pressures was also evaluated. For pressures above 10,000 psia, it was found that agreement between computed results and experimental data was poor. In addition, the difference between computed results and experimental data increased with increasing pressure. This difference was reduced by adjusting some parameters in the equation of state. It was found that the acentric factor, w, was the most sensitive parameter in computing the bubblepoint and dewpoint of onset of high-pressure data. A better agreement between computed results and experimental data was obtained by adjusting the acentric factor. A single value of o was used to compute results for different mixture compositions. For another set of data, it was found that the boiling point of the heavy component could influence the calculated phase behavior of high-pressure condensate systems. This work indicates that additional study of the equation of state for high-pressure condensate systems will be needed in the future.
