Abstract
This study has been conducted to investigate possibilities of applying the process of in-situ combustion to mobilize the tar zone present in several oil reservoirs in Saudi Arabia. These reservoirs are isolated from the pressure support of the large aquifers underlying many oil reservoirs in Saudi Arabia. The tar zone separating oil from the aquifer is about 6 inches thick; which if it could be mobilized, would lead to better recovery factors from pressure maintenance and waterflood below.
