Abstract
The Dykstra-Parsons method for prediction of oil recovery by water flood is a well known technique which has been used by the petroleum industry since 1945. The present work carries their study further, solving the same problem of finding coverage for certain values of permeability variation having water-oil ratio and mobility ratio as fixed parameters. This work however, instead of using 50 layers, uses 200 layers. Also a more precise theoretical approach to the problem is given. Because of these differences, the answers are not exactly the same when one compares the resulting curves. In a second part, the author deals with empirical simplifications, with relative success. The idea here was to collapse the curves obtained in the first part above.This work includes a general discussion of the theory, a computer program with the results, the curves of coverage versus permeability variation for fixed values of water-oil ratio and the empirical simplified curves.
