Xylem - Crowd Sourced Water Quality Monitoring
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- Water will be one of the global challenges that defines the 21st century; not enough water quality data is being generated to address the large scale problems that the next generations will face. Xylem proposes a crowd-sourced, low-cost water quality monitoring system that incorporates multiple water quality parameters and a centralized system for collecting and organizing data as an important resource in facing the global challenge of water quality management. Through need finding, user testing, and iterative prototpying, Aalto and Stanford University, with help from Xylem liaisons and citizen science groups, propose a solution called ourWater comprised of ourWater Sensor, ourWater Deploy, ourWater App, and ourWater web application to address the technical challenge of sensing, collecting, and organizing water quality data into an easy-to-use, accessible, and robust system that can make the difference in the fight to address water issues.
